6 Ways To Fix Wyze Base Station Not Connecting Issue

Last Updated on October 7, 2022 by Ron D. Morgan

The Base Station is an essential component of the Wyze Camera Outdoor. The cam outdoor needs to be connected to the Base station to function better.

Failure to connect the Wyze Outdoor Camera to the base station will limit the camera’s range to just the wireless network range.

How a base station works is that you connect to the base station with an Ethernet cable and place it outside to increase the network range. So the base station needs to work for the Wyze outdoor camera to function better.

If you’ve completed the setup process for your Wyze camera and the base station won’t connect, this post is for you. This post outlines why your Wyze Base Station is not connected. In the latter part of the post, you will find troubleshooting tips to fix the issue in no time.

But in a nutshell, if your Wye base station is not connecting it could be because of a power issue, or firmware issue.

Wyze Base Station Not Connecting

Several reasons can cause your base station to stop connecting. The issue could be from your router or the base station itself.

But below are some of the common issues to check out for when your base station isn’t connecting.

a. Power Issue

It could be that your base station isn’t receiving power to boost the mobile device. This could be caused by a faulty power outlet.

b. Fault Ethernet Cable

The setup process for the base station requires connecting to an Ethernet cable. If your Ethernet cable is faulty, it will affect the functionality of the base station.

c. Issues With The Wyze App

Another reason your base station isn’t connecting maybe because there’s an issue with the Wyze app. A new version of the Wyze app is released periodically. There’s a need to upgrade your app to ensure it’s running on the latest version.

Failure to update the Wyze app over time will affect the functionality of the base station and the camera setup.

d. Outdated Firmware Version

The base station comes with firmware that powers the hardware of the device. Similar to the mobile app, new versions of the firmware are released from time to time.

If you are using an outdated version of firmware, it can affect the functionality of the device over time.

Ways To Fix Wyze Base Station Not Connecting

a. Check Power Outlet

The first thing to check is the power source on your device. First, check the power outlet to make sure it’s working. You can check this by either plugging another device into the power outlet or plugging your base station into another power outlet.

Also, check the power cord to make sure there’s no cut on the cord or that the cord isn’t bent out of shape.

b. Power Cycle Device

The next option is to perform a power cycle on both your router and base station device. The power cycle process will fix any minor glitch on both devices that are interfering with the internet connection.

To power cycle, your router, unplug the router from the power outlet. Wait for 60 seconds, and plug back into the power source. Allow your router to reboot. While the router is rebooting, perform a power cycle on your base station device.

To perform a power cycle on your base station device, unplug the Ethernet cable from the base station. Unplug the device from the power source. Wait for 30 seconds, and plug back the device. Allow the device to boot.

After the reboot, connect the base station to the router using the Ethernet cable. Wait for a few minutes for the devices to complete the connection process.

c. Check Ethernet Cable

The Ethernet cable is used to connect the Base station to the router. You need to check the Ethernet Cable for fault. If the cable is too old or you notice a cut on the cable, you have to replace the cable.

You can order a new Ethernet cable for less than $10 on Amazon. Click here to buy on Amazon.

d. Update Wyze App Version

Another quick fix is to check the Wyze app version on your smartphone. You have to make sure you’re running the latest version of the app. Using an outdated version of the app can affect the Base station connection.

To check for and update your Wyze app version, open the App Store for IOS smartphones and the Google Play store for Android phones. If there’s a new app version available, you will find the ‘Update’ option.

Tap on the update button, and wait for a few minutes for the new version to install and update on your smartphone.

e. Perform A Soft Reset

Performing a soft rest on your base station means that you have to set up the device after the reset. That’s why the reset should be your last option. Only perform a reset if you’ve tried all the options on this post and none has worked so far.

Reset Wyze Base Station

To reset your Wyze Base Station, press and hold the ‘Sync’ button on your device for 30 seconds. Release the button when the tiny light turns yellow.
