Need a guide on how to port your number (line) to Straight Talk? This post is for you.
Straight Talk has a Local Number Portability agreement with most networks that allows you to transfer or port your number from another network to Straight Talk.
To port your number to Straight Talk, you can complete the process yourself online. The other options are to either call Straight Talk customer support or visit a Straight Talk store near you to complete the process for you.
This post will focus on how to complete the port-in process online. Thankfully, you don’t need any technical knowledge to complete the process.
Getting Ready To Port Number To Straight Talk
After you decide to port your number to Straight Talk, these are some of the things to put in place before you start the process:
a. Confirm Number Portability
Most people assume that you can port every number to the Straight Talk network. That’s not true. It is possible that the number you want to port to the Straight Talk network is not eligible to be port-in to the network.
That is why it is advisable to carry out a number portability check with Straight Talk first. Contact the Straight Talk porting department at 1-877-430-2355 to confirm that your number is eligible to port to the network before you start the port-in process.
b. Keep Account Active
Another thing to do is to keep your account with your current carrier active. Ensure that the account remains active until your number is active on the Straight Talk network.
Most people make the mistake of canceling their account with their current carrier once the port-out process is in progress. Your number port-in process won’t go through if you do this.
c. Unlock Phone
If you are going to purchase a new Straight Talk phone when you join the network, this won’t be an issue for you.
But if you are bringing your phone to the network, you have to ensure that the phone is unlocked. You can’t activate a phone locked to another carrier on Straight Talk.
If your device is locked to another carrier, check their unlock policy to see if the device qualifies for a free unlock.
Also, you have to ensure that the device is compatible for use on the Straight Talk network.
d. Get Account Details
Finally, you have to get your account details from the previous carrier. Straight Talk will need these details to apply for a number port-out request with your previous carrier. Check below for the details you need.
